Description

Saint Teresa of Jesus (Ávila) (March 28, 1515-October 4, 1582; Feast Day October 15) was a Spanish mystic, Roman Catholic saint, Carmelite nun, author, theologian of contemplative life through mental prayer (open you heart to God and God’s love), and a Doctor of the Church.

She wrote a poem that has been used as a prayer throughout the centuries:

Let nothing disturb you,

Let nothing frighten you,

All things are passing away:

God never changes.

Patience obtains all things

Whoever has God lacks nothing;

God alone suffices.

In 1559 in Spain, Saint Teresa of Jesus (Ávila) was praying and an angel appeared and pierced her heart with a spear of fire that sent God’s pure, passionate love into her soul, sending her into ecstasy.  Several portraits of Saint Teresa of Jesus highlight her pierced heart.
