Description

The Pietà (means pity in Italian and piety in Latin; 1498-1499) is a Carrara marble sculpture by Michelangelo that is housed in St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City.  It is a beautiful piece of art that depicts the forlorn moment where the Virgin Mary is cradling the dead body of her son in her loving arms after his crucifixion.
