for Children Children's Chapel (Kingdom Adventure) This spirited child’s service is designed for grades K-2nd. At the start of either of our English morning services, your child will be greeted in the Narthex by one of our Christian Education staff. Children are escorted to the Kingdom Adventure area, where they will engage in Bible stories, songs, movement, and prayer. This interactive kid’s service is intended to stimulate children spiritually while parents and adults listen to the adult sermon during worship (although parents are always welcome to accompany their child/children to the Assembly). All children return to the regular service in time to receive Communion with their family and the parish community.
Children's Christian Education
Nursery Nurturing care is given to our youngest parishioners ages 0 – 3 by trained teaching teams, comprised of paid staff and volunteer parishioners, who teach Biblical principles through Bible stories, songs, and play. The nursery is conveniently located off the Narthex, adjacent to the Parish Hall, and is available during and after church services as well as during the Christian Education hour.
Godly Play 3 - 5 year olds Modular 1 -Room Godly Play is a method of Christian education and spiritual direction primarily for children ages 2 -12. The goal of Godly Play is to teach children the art of using religious language, parable, sacred story, silence, and liturgical action to help them become more fully aware of the mystery of God's presence around them and in their lives. More information on Godly Play can be found at www.godlyplay.org.
True Vine I and II Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to the religious formation of children. It is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in an "atrium," a room prepared for them, which contains simple yet beautiful materials that they use.
In an atrium the child can ponder a biblical passage or a prayer from liturgy by taking the material for that text and working with it - placing wood figures of sheep in a sheepfold of the Good Shephard, setting sculpter apostles around a Last Supper table, or preparing a small altar with the furnishings used for the Eucharist. Older children who do read often copy parables from the Bible, lay in order written prayers from the rite of baptism, or label a long time line showing the history of the Kingdom of God.
Faith Weavers 4th - 5th grades Modular 1-Room Faith Weaver is a biblically based curriculum that is being used with our 4th and 5th graders. This curriculum focuses on experiential lessons that connect from church to home, moving beyond church walls and into people's lives. Children see how God's word is relevant to their lives and applies to them everyday. Children take what they've learned in class and use it to shape decisions about how they live their daily lives.
